How it works

This combination antibiotic contains amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin kills bacteria, while clavulanic acid blocks beta-lactamase enzymes that make bacteria resistant. This extends the effectiveness of amoxicillin against a wider range of infections.

Usage And Safety

Dosage

Oral Suspension (Children):

• Under 3 months: Not recommended
• 3–9 months: 2.5ml (half-strength)
• 9 months–2 years: 5ml (half-strength)
• 2–6 years: 5ml
  Given 3 times daily (up to 14 days)

Tablets (Adults):

• Mild–Moderate infections: 375mg three times daily OR 625mg every 12 hours
• Severe infections: 1g every 12 hours

Injection (IV):

• Adults: 1.2g every 6–8 hours
• Children: Dose based on body weight

Side Effects

Common: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion
Other: Headache, dizziness, fungal infections (candidiasis)
Serious (rare): Allergic reactions, swelling (angioedema), blood disorders

May interact with mycophenolate mofetil, probenecid, oral contraceptives, warfarin, and acenocoumarol
