How it works

Brimonidine tartrate reduces intraocular pressure by decreasing the production of aqueous humor in the eye and increasing its drainage. This helps prevent damage to the optic nerve caused by high eye pressure.

Usage And Safety

Dosage

Adults: 1 drop twice daily in affected eye(s)
Children: Not recommended
Or as directed by physician

Side Effects

Very common: Eye redness, burning, itching, dryness, blurred vision, drowsiness, headache, dry mouth
Common: Eye irritation, watery eyes, sensitivity to light, dizziness, nausea, weakness, cold-like symptoms
Uncommon: Depression, palpitations, allergic reactions, dry nose

Drug Interactions

May interact with MAO inhibitors, antidepressants, sedatives, opioids, antihypertensive drugs, and other central nervous system depressants.

Indication

Used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure in open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension.

When not to Use

Not suitable in children under 2 years, breastfeeding mothers, or patients allergic to brimonidine or any ingredient. Avoid use with MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants.

Precautions

Avoid contamination of dropper tip. Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinsertion. Use cautiously in heart disease or low blood pressure conditions.

Warnings

May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Benzalkonium chloride may irritate or deposit in contact lenses. Use caution while driving or operating machinery if vision is affected.
